Big Slick Steakhouse Opens on East Sixth Street in Austin
August 29, 2026
AUSTIN, TX — East Austin has added a new intimate dining destination with the opening of Big Slick, a boutique steakhouse and bar located on East Sixth Street.
The restaurant held its grand opening on August 29, 2026, at 1017 E. Sixth Street.
Big Slick was created by Austin-based husband-and-wife chefs Phillip Frankland Lee and Margarita Kallas-Lee, who are also behind several other restaurant concepts.
The chefs have received Michelin recognition for their work, and Big Slick brings their approach to a classic steakhouse format.
The dining room contains only about 22 seats, giving the restaurant a more intimate atmosphere than a traditional large steakhouse.
The menu centers around live-fire cooking using a wood-burning hearth.
Premium beef is dry-aged in-house, while the menu also includes seafood, poultry, lamb, and other seasonal dishes.
The experience combines elements of an old-school steakhouse with a more modern East Austin atmosphere.
Guests enter through a separate bar area before reaching the dining room behind curtains.
The bar also operates independently from the dining room, allowing walk-in customers to order cocktails and food even when restaurant reservations are unavailable.
Big Slick occupies the East Sixth Street space previously associated with another restaurant from the same hospitality group.
The opening comes as East Austin continues to attract new restaurants, bars, hotels, entertainment venues, and residential development.
East Sixth Street in particular has transformed considerably over the past decade, with new businesses joining long-established neighborhood restaurants and nightlife destinations.
Big Slick's opening adds another upscale dining option to the neighborhood while also strengthening Austin's reputation as a destination for chef-driven restaurants.
